MRC, which is behind “House of Cards”, had to launch Spacey, suspend series production, and rewrite the entire series to remove Spacey’s lead role and shorten it from 13 to 8 episodes to reach the deadline, resulting in tens of millions of dollars in losses, As stated in a ruling issued by a court in Los Angeles.
Spacey and his company that produces $31 million have to pay the equivalent of just under 277 million kronor.
The safety of our employees, location, and work environment are of the utmost importance to MRC, and the studio writes about why they are applying for compensation. Spacey’s advocates argued that his actions were not a determining factor in the MRC’s financial loss.
The case has been going on for more than three years out of the public eye. Spacey appealed the decision to three special arbitrators, who sided with the plaintiffs. Thus, the decision became final and known to the public on Monday.
The career of the 62-year-old Academy Award winner suddenly fell apart in 2017, when an actor claimed Spacey approached him at a party in the ’80s, when the actor was just 14 years old. Spacey said in a statement that he had no recollection of the incident, but apologised.
Later, many filed accusations, and some of them went to court. Independent investigators believe Spacey engaged in widespread sexual harassment of those who worked under him.
