There’s been some great news from Blocks, a producer of modular smartwatches, that has recently made a substantial leap forward.
In the run-up to a long-awaited crowdfunding campaign the company has moved its entire technical team to Taiwan where it will be collaborating with Compal Electronics, the world’s second biggest consumer electronics manufacturer.
Compal employs a number of experts whose know-how and expertise contributed to creation of rather successful smartwatches and smartphones on the market. Blocks team of engineers and Compal specialists have been working tirelessly “around the clock” to put the modules through some rigorous testing procedure. This will guarantee the quality and satisfaction for the end-user when the product hits the market.
Accordingly, the partnership has made it possible to develop a final prototype ahead of schedule. On top of that, the company has been working on assembling the tooling that will bring together modules and produce as compact the hardware as possible.
Additionally, Blocks has been granted the Red Dot Design award. The ceremony will take place in September in Singapore and will elevate Blocks to the stage of the most innovative consumer products of the day. The award has a world recognition and is given to companies who stand out for their product design and innovation. Among some of the grand recipients of the past are Sony, Apple and HTC. For Blocks the award means more partners, be it developers or retail distribution, and consequently a benefit for us as customers.
In June, company’s reps took part in the World Founder Forum 2015 in Stockholm, Sweden that was organised by Founder.org, a community of young innovators who are trying to address world’s most pressing issues. One of the problems facing the community is the electronic waste and how to reduce it. Along with other modular startups, Blocks is at the forefront of creating “greener” and more sustainable product instrumental in changing our perception of personal gadgets.
