Google ATAP, which is responsible for Project Ara development, confirmed it will participate in Google I/O 2016. The event will take place on May 18-20 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain view, California.
ATAP at Google I/O
A year ago Project Ara technical and engineering lead Rafa Camargo presented a fully functional modular phone prototype was assembled on stage in seconds. However, the whole demonstration lasted only only a few minutes, but no new information regarding smartphone release date, locations or prices was provided. As well as no technical details. This time we expect that Google will provide a lot of fresh details about Project Ara, taking into account that we didn’t hear from them almost a year now: their twitter account has been silent, there were no press releases, they didn’t answer any email requests….
Project Ara on GFXBench
Mystical 13.8-inch Project Ara tablet recently appeared on GFXBench. We hadn’t find any additional info regarding Ara tablet (till now the news and speculations were related to Ara smartphone only). So it’s not possible to confirm weather it is a real Google’s modular tablet, or just a mistakenly added device description on the popular benchmark website.
Patents for Project Ara
Official Project Ara website was updated recently. Now it has only one page with large ARA logo at the center, and new email address was added for developers to contact the Ara team.
Apart from presentation at Google I/O, we expect Rafa Camargo will announce soon the dates for the third Ara Developers Conference and long-awaited market pilot launch.
Something new is about to happen. Check Modular Phones Forum regularly for updates on Project Ara… and other modular gadgets as well.
