Eugen (Dagbladet): German Sarah Benvares was completely exhausted and collapsed right after the end.
She lay down, and the medical team stormed into the stadium and pelted the German women with ice, before being placed in a wheelchair and taken off the field for further examination.
In an update, the German Athletics Federation confirmed that she had heatstroke, but that she had gone well, given the circumstances.
Britain’s Jessica Judd (pictured) was completely exhausted. It took her a long time to wake up, but she was finally able to get back on her feet.
Judd advanced to the final, while Banvares was knocked out.
Carolyn Berkeley Groffdale, who ran safely to the final of the same heat with a time of 14.53.07, says the following about the episodes:
– I didn’t get it with me, but it was hot out there today. If you don’t have a bag scale in advance, you can go to the excitement, she explains to Dagbladet.
The 32-year-old was very happy with his own race:
– I felt like I had complete control today. I focused on being in the top five. It was cheap all the way and I could check jogging.
