It is said that a fisherman told the Japanese newspaper that he had to stab the turtle to get it out of a fishing net.

Many of them are wrapped in fishing nets. I loosened some of them and released them into the sea, but I couldn’t release the heavy ones, so I stabbed them to get rid of them, said the fisherman.

Local media reported that the police were investigating the case.

to me BBC Marine biologists and staff at the island’s Sea Turtle Museum rushed ashore when the gruesome discovery first became known, but most of the turtles must have already died.

Turtles found on the beach must be green sea turtles.

The green sea turtle has been identified as an endangered species and is on the IUCN Red List.

to me The great Norwegian encyclopedia The IUCN Red List is the most complete source of knowledge about species extinction risks. It provides an overview of the world’s endangered species and assesses the threat of species extinction.
