KLM is working on greenwashing |  Letters of News

A Dutch court has ruled that KLM misled customers in a case brought against the airline by an environmental group that accused the airline of “greenwashing”. Last month, the Amsterdam District Court ruled in favor of the environmental organization Fossielvrij (Fossiel Free).

The organization accused the Dutch airline of misleading advertising.

According to the court, the airline made a series of vague and unsubstantiated claims that downplayed the environmental impact of flying in its “Fly Responsibly” advertising campaign, she wrote. Flight time.

Not punishment

However, the ruling did not oblige KLM to withdraw the information, nor did it impose a penalty on the airline. Advertising campaigns are no longer active.

Instead, the court warned the airline to be more precise and transparent in future communications regarding environmental issues.

KLM accepted the court's decision.

“It is good that the court has given us more clarity on what is possible and how we can continue to communicate transparently and honestly about our approach and activities.” Official letter.

The airline also says it is “pleased” that the court ruled that it can “continue to communicate with our customers and partners about our approach to making aviation more sustainable.”

KLM says it is constantly learning how to best incorporate this.

This greenwashing case is one of several brought by environmental organizations against airlines over their advertising campaigns.
