Meteorologist: - The consequences could be

Hazard warnings have been issued for Vestfold, Telemark and Agder. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute estimates that they can expect a huge amount of rain during the evening and night of up to 60 mm.

The forecast only lasts until Tuesday morning, but østafjells will rain a lot this week, says meteorologist at work, Espen Beseth Granan, to Dagbladet.

It warns that rainfall can lead to small flooding in the streets, which could lead to traffic problems in eastern Norway.

– There can be consequences with surface waters, and it can affect local driving conditions. Granan says those who live in areas where it could be a problem should make sure that water can flow into the drains and that the drains are not clogged with leaves or the like.

Leave the car parked

The insurance company Tryg expects more damage, and is asking people to take their precautions.

We expect storms and rainfall in particular to do the most damage. People did not clean garden furniture in summer, so we advise people to secure all loose things outside as soon as possible. Hook up the trampoline and arrange garden furniture, umbrellas, party tents and a grill, Torbjørn Brandeggen, Communications Consultant at Tryg Forsikring wrote in a press release.

The insurance company notes that when there is a lot of water in such a short time, it can cause damage where basements are flooded, setbacks from drains where water returns to the house, or cars that are submerged.

– People should ensure that there are no leaves, dirt and other obstructions in the road where the water must flow, and preferably not to park their vehicles near the manhole cover. The danger to the surface waters is high and the roads are closed, says Brandigen, so the smartest thing is to leave the car until the storm is over.

Bad weather during autumn holidays

Although the warning lasted no longer than Tuesday morning, it will remain on hold in eastern Norway for the rest of the week.

As the forecast now looks, this weather will continue further into the fall holiday week for counties like Oslo and Viken. Elsewhere, such as Telemark, Vestfold, and Vestland, fall vacations don’t start until October 11

Weather-wise, it wouldn’t be a good start to fall vacation. You can expect plenty of rain and gray clouds, says Granan, who notes that this is typical autumn weather.

Northern Weather Winners

September has been extremely dry in the south and east of the country, and meteorologists believe the dry parts of the country are finally getting some raindrops that, among other things, are good for filling reservoirs and groundwater levels.

However, in the North, people are better equipped for higher electricity prices during the fall, because there is much more rainfall during the summer than in the South.

They also have more to enjoy now that temperatures these days have been reported as high as 20 degrees in several places in the north.

At Birtavarre, Kåfjord in Troms, they measured more than 20 on a degree scale on Monday.

There are some nice temperatures in the north, with warm air and sun and nice weather, says the meteorologist.
