The fire department was unable to put out the fire for several hours in an apartment building in Sunnergata in Grunerloka, Oslo.
By around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, police say the fire is out, but the fire service will remain at the scene for some time.
The fire department said the fire broke out on the fourth floor and was trying to prevent it from spreading upstairs. They were inside with smoke detectors and the residence should not have been occupied.
Due to the age of the building and the spread of the fire in the building, extinguishing was a challenge for a long time.
– This is the so-called 1890 farm, which was built to contain many holes that are challenging to extinguish, says Sven Christian Lie, operations manager at the police.
29 people were evacuated from the apartment building. They are given an alternative place. No one was injured.
There is heavy smoke in the area, and images show flames coming from a window on the floor in question.
Emergency services were notified about the fire at around 2:30 p.m.
Fagerheimkata is closed due to damming work.
