Already in the first period, Patrick Mahomes (27 years old) had to be helped to his feet after he badly sprained his ankle under the body weight of Arden Key (108 kg).
He tried to play through the pain, but eventually had to throw in the towel in favor of backup quarterback Chad Heene — he thought so.
After halftime, amazingly, Mahomes returned to the field, playing the entire last half while limping and throwing touchdown passes with the wrong foot. According to NFL journalist Ian Rapoport, Mahomes was playing with a sprained ankle.
