It didn’t take many seconds before the stadium filled with angry fans chasing Saint-Etienne’s players.
Both torches and fireworks were thrown at players as they collided with the player’s tunnel.
– These are going to be some horrific pictures. no no no! Chaos. These are not good pictures. Dirksport commentator Robin Haugen said of the scenes of the scandal that unfolded, with the shocking pictures.
In the images from the player tunnel, it may look as if some players were hit by something fans threw at them.
– This is where the fans of Saint-Etienne are overwhelmed with emotion. Haugen commented that this is not what it should be.
Shortly after the relegation fact, the club’s owners issued a statement regarding relegation.
There they write that they share the pain and grief of everyone who loves the club, but that defeat must be accepted. They further wrote that they bear full responsibility for the landing.
– After a while, we will announce important news related to the future of the club. An important aspect of our lives will be overturned, but above all we put the ASSE institution which, we are convinced, will quickly find its way to the elite, they write.
Saint-Etienne had a tough season in Ligue 1 this season, and after finishing 18th, he had to play against Auxerre of Ligue 2 to secure his place in Ligue 1.
And it ended, as is known, with losses and downfalls for the green wearers. Saint-Etienne is one of the most traditional clubs in France, which is exactly why relegation is likely to put more pressure on the fans.
Along with Paris Saint-Germain, Saint-Etienne is the club in France with the most gold medals with 10 titles. This relegation is also the club’s first in 18 years.
