Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had the only big smile when Jadon Sancho was finally at Manchester and he had put pen to paper on his five-year contract with United. But the Norwegian is deeply suspicious that Old Trafford fans will see anything for a dodging fan from first thing.

– Now he was off after the European Championships and after that he was a little sick, unfortunately. Solskjær told TV 2 he’s been through a training session and a half, so he hasn’t trained much.

It takes some time before he gets back in shape, but the whole season will be very important for us.

The 21-year-old has been high on the Reds’ priority list for a long time, and while Sancho is unlikely to take part in Saturday’s season-opening game against Leeds, Solskjaer believes fans have reason to rejoice.

In the long run: Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally managed to flaunt Jadon Sancho in a red suit.

In the long run: Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally managed to flaunt Jadon Sancho in a red suit.

He is a player that I am sure will give us many happy moments in the coming years.

The summer sent far more players out of the gates of Old Trafford than it did. Sancho of Borussia Dortmund will contribute offensively and Raphael Varane, according to the plan, will form a strong duo with captain Harry Maguire.

– We are happy so far, says Solskjær before continuing.

– And then hopefully Varane will be in his place, of course.

At the time of writing, according to The Athletic insider, there will only be formalities before final confirmation is ready.

In mind: Solskjær had to realize that the premiere was performing in a big way last season. The 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace was a far cry from the Norwegians' ambitions.

Some debris in the machines

Solskjaer could enjoy four goals against Everton in rehearsal, but that doesn’t mean the 48-year-old will face his season-opener carefree. The Norwegian should do something about his home stats if United are close to the Premier League trophy when we approach May 2022.

Last season started as a nightmare for an empty Old Trafford with a 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace, before Tottenham thrashed Solskjaer’s men 6-1.

We lost three or four games at home last season, and I don’t remember exactly. “We won’t do that this year,” Solskjaer says.

We will not promise anything

This is how the series begins in the English Premier League and the League on TV 2

Manchester United finished last season as runners-up in the Premier League, but their distance from rival and city-winners is 12 points.

Is the team good enough to challenge Manchester City for the league title?

– You have to start well, and gain momentum. Last year we were second, the year before third, so there is progress. You have to be on top from the first match to the last.

– We were stable from November 1 to May 10-12, when we lost one match. If we can recreate it, we can help fight for things in March, April and May.

Solskjær begins his third season as manager of one of the world’s largest football clubs.

United used to collect trophies, but the closest to the Norwegian was last season’s loss in the Europa League final to Villarreal.

We are a club that has traditionally won many titles. Last year we got to a final and of course we should have a cup here now, but it wasn’t like that.

“If we keep improving and evolving, I’m pretty sure we can sit here and talk about having a good season,” says the 48-year-old.

Is it ideal to start at home against Leeds?

– The result will appear, says Solskjaer with a smile.
