The company confirms a major disappointment in the iPhone 15

In an unexpected change of subject, Cirrus Logic has now confirmed that it will no longer be producing the new digital buttons for the iPhone 15 series.

We expected this to be a 2023 product

It is expected that there will be a button instead of a key and that the volume buttons will also be fully digital with vibration pressure. But then a counter notification popped up stating that this wouldn’t happen after all.

That the buttons as we know them today are disappearing is something we’ve heard since fall 2022, back then from Ming-Chi Kuo. We considered that unlikely at the time, and assumed there would be no problem for Apple to get hold of it as long as the same technology is used in the iPhone’s home button and used in a number of other products. The same guy said it was technical challenges, not wanting new buttons, that were the problem.

This year (?), iPhone buttons are smart and can do more

Cirrus Logic reports this

But we might be wrong, because as Cirrus Logic wrote in the quarterly report:

“A new product that we mentioned in previous shareholder letters, which was due this fall, is no longer expected to come to market as planned. Because we have limited visibility into our customers’ future plans for this product at this time, we are working to remove associated revenue This component of our internal model.

In other words, the company has no idea if Apple delayed that until the iPhone 16, or dropped the project. It’s a strange turn of events because it seems like a logical improvement that might have also improved the iPhone Ultra’s diving capabilities.
