The private chef of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia reveals the details:

It is nothing new that members of the royal family rarely set foot in the kitchen, and the vast majority probably prefer their food to be prepared and served by skilled chefs.

At least that's how it works for King Carl Gustaf (77) and Queen Silvia (80), who have several staff to manage their daily lives.

Now it's over

In an interview with Expressreproduced by Swedish women's magazineNow, the royal couple's private chef is revealing more details about what it's like to work at the castle.

Magnus Velnau (42) is the man who ensures the royal couple are served good meals at all times. He has previously worked in the USA, the Caribbean and Stockholm.

Velnau, who has worked at the castle for the past two years, tells Expressen that creativity is required when preparing meals. No day is the same and variety is important.

-Not that many tacos are made here. It turns a lot of green, which I really like to do, otherwise there would be a lot of mixed things,” Velnau reveals.

Furthermore, the 42-year-old says he is sometimes asked to prepare slightly unusual dishes, but nothing he's not already used to.

– When you work in restaurants like me, you have experience. I wouldn't say there are any weirder orders here compared to regular restaurant guests. It has more to do with the fact that there is a lot that can change in a short time, and there are many of those things.

Velnau also reveals in the interview that King Carl Gustaf in particular had a great interest in food.

-We were in Mexico a few weeks ago on a state visit. I have an idea for menus and food and then try to present it. Just before official visits, a dialogue is held with the King and Queen, and then we get to what we want. He helps decide what kind of food it will be, and he is very interested, he says in conclusion.
