Donald Trump announced his press conference on January 6, a year after the former president’s supporters stormed Congress.
The 75-year-old, who still claims to be the winner of the November 2020 presidential election, is criticizing the ongoing Congressional investigation into the storm that killed five people.
More than 650 people have so far been charged after the storm, which was an attempt to prevent elected representatives from declaring Democrat Joe Biden the election winner.
Accusing Trump of cheering his supporters up before the storm, Trump has been put on trial in the House of Representatives, where Democrats have a majority. The Senate, where the Republicans had a majority, acquitted him of the charge.
Trump claims the Congressional investigation into the events is politically motivated, and says in a statement that the House of Representatives should instead investigate the “rigged presidential election of 2020”.
“I’m going to have a press conference in Mar-a-Lago on January 6 to discuss all of this and more,” Trump said.
Democrat Biden received 7 million more votes than Republican Trump, who has repeatedly indicated in the past that he will run again in 2024.
