The AirPlay reference is found in Tesla’s code

Elon Musk is now saying that Tesla is considering adding support for Apple AirPlay (which streams over WiFi, not Bluetooth), and thus not the CarPlay interface. Perhaps it will disappoint many, but the advantage will be the ability to offer better sound quality. Now there is progress.

It’s the “Tesla App Updates (iOS)” Twitter account that found the reference.allowAirPlayForMediaPlaybackIn a newer version of Tesla software. In other words, WiFi streaming is on the way (probably in 24-bit/48kHz audio quality), not that long, but note that AirPlay doesn’t work in the version the string was found on.
