Serious traffic accident in the Opera subway in Oslo

Five people were injured when a car traveling in the wrong direction collided with a train in the Operatunnel in Oslo early Saturday morning.

4 people in the car got down from the car. One person had to be freed while all five were taken to Ulleval Hospital.

– The extent of different damages varies, but this appears to be a very serious accident. The trailer driver was slightly or not physically injured, but was definitely affected by the incident, and his condition is being taken care of, operations manager Bjorn Gunner Nysetter tells NRK.

The extent of the damage was not made clear.

– This happened in the eastward race. We have some perspective on the course of events, but let’s get to the video to get a clearer picture of what happened. The extension has multiple cameras, Nysæter says.

The accident was reported to the police around 4.30 am. The exit from the Opera subway to Mosseveien is closed until further notice.

At present, the crime branch is investigating the incident.

– We have the accident analysis team of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, which helps the police. The Accident Investigation Board has also been notified of the accident, says Nisetter.

After watching the video footage from the tunnel, the police have a clear picture of the cause of the accident.

– shows that the passenger car was unfortunately driving in the opposite direction, i.e. in the wrong direction, in the tunnel, says Nysetter.
