The article on digital infrastructure has been cited 1,000 times – and now the researchers are being honored

The Journal of Management Information Systems Quarterly was awarded the article award Generative mechanisms for digital infrastructure evolution. Bijstad wrote the article with Professor Ola Henfredsson ten years ago, and to date it has been cited about 1,000 times.

Award winners describe the evolution of digital infrastructure and how important it is for managers to understand the mechanisms and forces that drive development over time. Through different cases, they identify three important mechanisms: adoption, innovation, and expansion.

– It's great to get an award for long-term impact, and that's what we researchers work for. The article addresses a topic that has gained increasing importance, namely large digital infrastructures, where we build on the work of Professor Uli Hanseth. We are also likely to receive the award because of the original research design, says Bijstad.

The study provides insight into how digital infrastructures, such as online payment platforms, adapt to changes in technology, market and user behaviour. It is valuable to managers and organizations that must manage complex digital infrastructure systems.

According to Google Scholar, the 25-page article has been cited nearly 1,000 times. MIS Quarterly is a peer-reviewed scientific journal founded in 1977 and ranked as one of the best scientific publications by the Financial Times.
