(Al Bell 24): Will you pay 168 million for the number plate? barely.
However, in Dubai there are very wealthy people who are willing to put such sums on the table to get certain plates on their car.
This was exactly the case during the auction I organized Emirates Auctions Earlier this year.
New world record
The license plate, which you see on the car below, has become the most expensive license plate ever sold in the world, according to the auction house.
“P7” was sold for 55 million dirhams, equivalent to 168 million Norwegian kroner.
The previous record dates back to 2008, when Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khoury bought a sign for 52.2 dirhams, equivalent to 159 million Norwegian kroner.
Volvo for 20 million
The good thing about all this madness is that the money from the banner and a number of other items in the auction will go to the “Billion Meals” charity headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.
A year ago, we wrote about a rusty old Volvo with a “New York” license plate, for sale for $20 million.
As far as we know, it has not been sold yet.
