Kyle Rittenhouse was 17 years old when he shot three people with a semi-automatic rifle in connection with a BLM demonstration in August last year. Two of them died.
For several days, the prosecution tried to prove that he was guilty of premeditated murder. They confirmed that Rittenhouse intended to kill Joseph Rosenbaum (36) and Anthony Hopper (26). Gaige GrossKreutz (27) was also shot but survived.
Prosecutor Thomas Binger, pushed hard on the 18-year-old Rittenhouse, but did not get a confession that he intended to kill.
Rittenhouse stubbornly claims he felt threatened and shot him in self-defence. Although he stands to point the gun at Rosenbaum and Huber with both hands before withdrawing, he denies that he intended to kill.
The accused broke down in tears when he had to explain the course of events. The defendant later requested that the trial be dismissed due to the severity of the claim. The news agency reported that Judge Bruce Schroeder has not yet decided the case AP.
– He can run away
He says Rosenbaum ran after him and threatened to kill him before.
“If I had lowered the gun, Rosenbaum would have taken it from me and shot me and possibly others,” he says.
Binger is trying to show the jury that Rittenhouse created the dangerous situation this evening, and that pointing the AR-15 at someone would make them feel threatened by life.
– He could have run away instead of trying to take the gun from me, but he kept running after me. He did not stop, says the 18-year-old in his explanation.
Rebellion and chaos
The fatal incident began with Rittenhouse led from his home in Illinois to Kenosha, where there were demonstrations and riots after a black man, Jacob Blake, Seven bullets by the police.
This was also a few weeks after the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota by police.
Rittenhouse claims he traveled to Kenosha to protect property after two nights of burning and looting.
Black Lives Matter supporters described Rittenhouse as a white supremacist, while conservatives described him as a patriot who exercised his right to bear arms during the riots.
Rittenhouse faces life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges. According to the plan, the final applications will be submitted to the court at the beginning of next week.
