Virgil's crazy statistics were pulled by Carragher before Newcastle's win

Virgil van Dijk has been a stalwart in Liverpool's defense for five years now, and his absence from the 2020/21 season is a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds.

He returned to the field again at the start of the 2021/22 season, never losing at the top level, but this autumn he showed himself once again one of the best of his team.

Following the 4-2 win over Newcastle, Jamie Carragher took to the Sky studio to discuss the Liverpool captain's absolutely insane Premier League home stats. It was the 32-year-old's 90th appearance at Anfield, and only one match has ended in defeat.

You can watch the clip in the window below.

Crazy numbers

Van Dijk's only defeat in the Premier League came at Anfield against Leeds on 29 October 2022 after a late goal scored by Crescinho Summerville. 75 out of 90 matches ended in victory, giving a winning percentage of 83.3%.

In three seasons, the Dutchman remained injury-free, ending up with over 90 points for Liverpool. The 2018/19 season will be applied with 97 points, the 2019/20 golden season will be scored with 99 points, and 2021/22 will be applied with 92 points.

After the injury he suffered in the match with Jordan Pickford in the fall of 2020, Jurgen Klopp's side earned just 69 points and finished in the top four.

Last year's season, which Jamie Carragher described as Van Dijk's only poor campaign at Anfield, saw him score just 67 points. He is now back to his best, once again as a leader, needing just 22 points in his last 20 games. There are likely to be many more.

On Wednesday afternoon, news came that the 32-year-old had been nominated for FIFA's 'World 11' squad for 2023. He is the only Liverpool player on the list. The centre-back has previously participated in the team three times (2019, 2020 and 2022).
