Ecofax Depot T9 AIVI | a test

Ecofax Depot T9 AIVI | a test

There is a sea of robotic vacuum cleaners out there, and in recent years it has become a natural thing to own one yourself. But it can be hard to navigate the jungle of options.

We’ve tested it before Roborock S7MaxV UltraAnd the Seamless S1And the Xiaomi Roborock S7 + And the Samsung JetBot 90 AI +.

This time it was Ecovac’s Deebot Ozmo T9 AIVI that was ready to grab. It costs from NOK 5889 without an unloading station.

During a two-month test period, I noticed one thing. There were surprisingly few error messages or app problems. The vacuum cleaner easily found its way to the dock without any problems. And it is precisely this that makes him very pleasant in the busy everyday life.

The first impression was that it works in smooth motions and is a little smarter, for example, than Sømløs. He is able to move well around obstacles, the latter of which got stuck.

But I have tested that if the dust container becomes too full, dust may fall out of the container when it is removed. Then there was solid dust both in the engine itself, which sucked it up, and in the hatch to the dust container, which was half open. This resulted in me having to vacuum again. Fortunately, this problem did not recur many times.

At first, it was also difficult for the vacuum cleaner to find its way into its charger after vacuuming, but after a couple of cycles it worked.

longer time

However, when compared, the Deebot T9 AIVI takes a little longer to clean with 44 minutes on 30 square metres. Here it makes up for itself in that it has good suction and picks up the vast majority of things.

However, I did find breadcrumbs next to the sofa, something that really should have been picked up. The pieces were large enough and far enough away to pick them up, but it might seem that the brush was a bit dull.

I also noticed that the track line in this app loads more slowly than a robotic vacuum cleaner, for example, in Sømløs. There isn’t much to say about the functionality of the vacuum cleaner other than being frustrating when the apps aren’t completely up to date when you follow them in real time.

Barriers and obstacles

A positive surprise was how easy it was to erect barriers where the vacuum cleaner could not be operated. I was able to put the baffle around the heater, even if the sidewalk was close by, which I couldn’t do, for example, on the Sømløs S1, the previous robotic vacuum cleaner tested here at home.

I left the drying rack up front a few times to test how it works with natural everyday obstacles. Even if the vacuum cleaners were switched off and you tried to drive partially, they managed to break free well, which is important for a robotic vacuum cleaner that should act as a daily companion.

At the beginning of the testing period, it made a lot of noise, but after some cleaning with the rubber brush, something stuck. And so the loud sound disappeared.

Lots of Possibilities: The app is very nice, but sometimes it can seem a bit slow to load the track during the vacuuming process. Photo: screenshot

Application

As for the application, it is very easy to use. If you haven’t used the vacuum cleaner for a while, it’s very easy to plug it in again. It has both a smart cleaning mode and a video manager where you can drive the robotic vacuum cleaner around the house by yourself using a joystick.

After three cycles, the living room and dining room were completely mapped out and I had the opportunity to create a 3D drawing of the living room. Here I entered the furniture manually. However, this function was of little use.

It was easy to draw the partitions, divide the rooms and give these rooms names, so you have an overview of where they are on the way.

video function

A very good function, especially if you are away while the vacuum cleaner is on, is the video function. It’s very nice to be able to keep track of where you’re driving, especially if you should be crashing or something similar.

It was also fun for young and old to use the robotic vacuum cleaner as a secret spy phone. You can drive to the different patrol sites at home and chat. If you have a frightened dog, you could, for example, use a vacuum cleaner to drive toward the dog’s place and talk through it.

However, this feature is not used very often. It’s probably more of a fun feature than something really necessary, considering they can always look at the 2D or 3D map where it’s in the box.

floor sink

This robotic vacuum cleaner has been cleaned multiple times. In a house with two children, one small and one large, a lot of stains seep on the floor.

The company Ecovacs itself writes:

“Deebot T9 AIVI takes care of all floor surfaces without flashing thanks to the advanced Ozmo™ Pro function. It mops, vacuums and dries the floor with vibration 480 times/min to effectively remove tough stains from all floor surfaces.”

It did pick up several stains in one wash, but we sprayed the worst of it well first and let the robot clean the stains afterward. It worked very well, and many of the sticky spots are gone.

Don't collect a lot of hair: the rubber brushes can be removed and cleaned easily if something gets stuck. But these don't pick up as much hair as regular brushes do. Pictured: Selena Stamper

ancestors

Compared to its predecessors, the new T9 AIVI features a smaller dust container capacity of 300ml compared to 420ml for both Deebot T9 and Deebot T8 AIVI. The water tank capacity is also 180ml compared to the capacity of the Deebot T8 AIVI. The difference here is that the new T9 AIVI uses Ozmo Pro 2.0, while the T8 AIVI has only Ozmo.

When it comes to working time, the T9 AIVI lasts for 150 minutes compared to 175 minutes for the T9 and T8 AIVI. This may appear to be due to Ozmo’s new technology.

conclusion

Overall, this is a simple and decent vacuum cleaner that does what it’s supposed to do. In addition, it has a very interesting video function, which makes it a little more advanced than some competitors. But since it does not take the most difficult spots, it is worth considering whether this model is worth about a thousand dollars more than its predecessors with almost the same functionality, just updated. However, the spot cleaning function works very well. The vacuum cleaner is also quick to “obey”.

– Good vacuuming, but it takes time
– Can be purchased with discharge station
– Washes the floor well despite some of the toughest stains
– Video function with two-way communication
Carpets can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner
Reacts relatively quickly

– A little slow in the application
– It can get crowded
– Some problems catching crumbs near the base of the sofa.
