Tromsø manager Gaute Helstrup (47) extends his contract with the elite club, thus putting an end to the Lillestrøm rumours.
The club confirmed this in a press conference on Friday afternoon.
Helstrup has signed an agreement that runs through the 2025 season.
– We are so glad to have such skilled professionals at the Additional Convention. There are probably two of the best soccer coaches in the country. Since Gaute came on in 2020, there has been a huge development from the top flight, says sporting director Lars Peter Andersen.
Assistant coach Jürgen Vick also extends his contract with Tromsø IL.
Tromsø are fourth in the Eliteserien after 14 matches, two points behind runners-up Viking.
– I think there have been some good weeks recently, but it’s been some good years so far, Helstrup opens at the press conference and continues:
– We now have a springboard for fall and it’s incredibly exciting. We see a group of guys who are incredibly motivated and do incredibly well on a daily basis.
“The Helstrup stays on and the TIL train can sound with undiminished power! What a lift for the players, the club and the city,” wrote TV2 expert Yau Amankwah Twitter about the news.
Perhaps this is a setback for Romerike’s Yellow and Black. Lillestrom is looking for a new coach after the departure of Geir Bakke from arch-rivals Vålerenga. Lillestrøm’s boss – Morten Kokkim – said the following recently about Helstrup:
