Ryan Garcia is scheduled to compete again on April 20.
Then Devin Haney stands in the opposite corner, in what is set to be one of the biggest boxing matches in Las Vegas this year.
However, Garcia's recent behavior is raising concern in the boxing community, and the 25-year-old has made several bizarre statements on social media in recent months.
This week, he uploaded a video to TikTok of himself crying.
– He seems to be losing it
Former British world champion Ricky Hatton believes the team around Garcia must take action.
– He seems to be losing it, and I think the ring is the wrong place if you're in the wrong place mentally, says Hatton, according to Hatton. Talk about sports.
Hatton himself remembers how he convinced himself that he was fine during the periods when he was fighting as an active boxer.
– I thought I was not affected by the pressure, but only when I look back can I see how much it actually affected me.
Garcia is not under pressure, but he seems like he is going through something. If you asked him, he'd probably say he's fine, so he needs people around him to take action for him, Hatton says.
Strikes again
In recent weeks, Garcia has made strange statements, including that members of the “elite” tied him to a tree and forced him to watch sexual crimes.
He himself claims that everything is fine with him, and is very aggressive with boxing journalist Michael Benson, who only shared part of the video in which Garcia cries.
– I shortened the video in which I worshiped God on TikTok directly with my community. I love God and you posted this like I'm crying because I'm mentally unstable. I find it distasteful and disrespectful to my faith, but you get your clicks, Garcia writes on Twitter.
Garcia is one of the best boxers in the world, a former WBC and WBO lightweight titleholder, and is followed by 10.5 million people on Instagram.
The American has 24 wins and only one loss during his professional career, the only loss being against Gervonta Davis.
