Here is the first electric station wagon from Volkswagen

do you remember? The station wagon version of the VW ID.7 is here, called Tourer in the international version.

Passat replaces the station wagon:

Once half of Norway rolled into a Passat station wagon. Now Volkswagen is launching its electric successor, the ID.7 Tourer.

The ID.7 is a model we expect to sell large volumes, says Ulf Tore Hickneby, CEO of Harald A. Møller and acting president of VW Norway.

In 2023, the coupe version of the ID.7 arrives, spacious with a WLTP range of up to 600 km, depending on the type of equipment.

The station wagon, which made its world premiere on Monday, has an electric range of up to 685 kilometers – and up to 605 liters of luggage space, and up to 1,714 liters with the rear seats folded down.

There should be enough space for two meter boards behind the front backrest.

Even faster

The ID.7 was surprisingly underpowered in the range portion of our winter testing, despite steady consumption very close to the WLTP promise.

But it charged quickly. Things will go faster now.

The station wagon has a battery with a charging capacity of 200 kW. The coupe we tested a few weeks ago had a maximum limit of 175, but we recorded 190kW at most at the bar.

Prices and delivery time have not been announced yet.

station wagon?

Then one question remains – which has become urgently important for Volkswagen in Norway:

Are hearts still beating for a station wagon, or does only SUVs apply?

Volkswagen faced intense competition in the new car market.

The all-wheel-drive version of the ID.4 certainly performed well in the narrower segment, while sales of the facelifted ID.3 were up.

Otherwise, it is thin.

The beginning of the death rattle

The brand that took first place in the Norwegian summit was the third best-selling brand last year. The market this year has been, to put it mildly, turbulent, perhaps especially for Volkswagen – which has so far registered only around 550 new cars. We are used to 4-5 times higher numbers.

The ID.7 station wagon comes at the same time that more and more brands are offering electric station wagons:

The MG5 stood alone for a while, but was joined by the Nio ET5 Touring, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer, and more recently the BMW i5 Touring.

Along with the ID.7, the electric Audi A6 Avant will also be launched soon.

Of these cars, Opel has the largest number of registrations (38 so far this year), a number that is hardly adequate to conclude in any direction about the possibility of this car class returning to the old heights.
