Professional boxer Kevin Milhous (34) clinched the points victory away from home against Finland’s Samuli Karkkainen (32) this evening. Former professional boxer Thomas Hansfull, 49, thought it was shocking.
- Professional boxer Kevin Milhous (34) wins on points over Finn Samuli Karkkainen (32) in Finland
- Former professional boxer Thomas Hansfull (49 years old) commented on the match, and considered that the refereeing was strange and shocking.
- Milhous captured the WBO Intercontinental Cruiserweight title belt and now stands with 11 victories as a professional boxer
- This was Milhouse’s fourth match in 2023, after a three-and-a-half-year break due to a serious illness.
After ten rounds in Yhteistokoulu, Järvenpää, in Finland, the Hungarian judge had it 96-94 for Milhous, the Norwegian judge 97-93 for Karkkainen and the Finnish judge 97-95 for Milhous.
The boxing event was broadcast live on VG+ Sport – Watch match recordings here.
– It’s a strange ruling, commentator Hansvoll said live when the points were read.
The article has been updated.
He even had it 97-93 for the Finnish boxer and was sure that this would end in the first loss of his career to Milhous.
– I can’t see him doing enough to win the rounds. Why he got the victory is an open question for me, but he got the victory and then we just have to respect that, Hansvall summed up and added:
– I am shocked!
And so it was Milhouse who captured the WBO intercontinental cruiserweight title belt, and now has 11 victories among the highest possible number of professional boxers.
– This was surprising to me too. “We should definitely have a rematch in Norway,” Milhous said when he was interviewed in the ring.
– I was hoping Kevin would win this match, but when I saw this match here, I didn’t understand it. I stand behind Norwegian judge Sigmund Aagaard who got it 97-93. This actually irritates me,” Hansvoll explains to VG.
-I was so unsure before the judge’s points arrived, I really had no idea. There is a difference between commentating and recording matches, but of course we respect that there are different points of view on this matter, says Milhouse coach Alexander Hagen to VG and adds:
-I have to see the match recorded before I can record my score.
He passed away more than three years ago
Kärkkäinen had 18 wins and one loss in his professional career before the encounter with Milhous, who had ten wins and no losses.
Milhouse was absent from the boxing ring for three and a half years due to a serious illness, but returned in April. This was his fourth match of 2023.
Now it may seem that there will be a rematch between the two boxers in Norway. Kärkkäinen has played all his matches in Finland so far in his career.
