The death of actor and teacher Lou Baltour, and this was confirmed by his daughter, Katharina Balter Hollywood Reporter. He lived to be 94 years old.
He died of lung cancer at his Los Angeles home just over a month ago, on May 21.
Balter has been involved in a number of productions during his career, including “The Flying Nun,” “Hill Street Blues,” and the world-famous “Titanic.”
This is perhaps the role he is best known for in the latter, portraying department store magnate Isidore Strauss – one of the world’s richest men at the time of the Titanic’s sinking.
Along with his wife Ida, Isidor refused to leave the sinking boat, a story immortalized in the film. Isidor and Ida were lying on the bed waiting for the boat to sink together.
In addition, Palter has served as a theater teacher at the CalArts School of Theatre, and has been a mentor to many well-known actors, such as Ed Harris, Don Cheadle, and Cecily Strong.
“As a teacher, it seems like he really changed people’s lives,” his daughter told The Hollywood Reporter.
