Porsche in 'logical' F1 talks with Red Bull

One month ago, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess confirmed that the premium brands Audi and Porsche had decided to enter Formula 1.

Porsche is said to have reached the furthest point in the process, after working with Red Bull in the WRC (World Rally Championship). Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner, who last year managed to take the inside turn on rival Volkswagen Mercedes in search of the Formula 1 throne, describes it to Bloomberg TV as making sense to hold talks with Porsche.

– I think it’s great that they are talking about getting into Formula 1. There are famous brands, especially Porsche. Once they announce their intention, we think it makes sense to talk to them, he says in an interview.

2026 is the year?

Horner sees no opening for new F1 entrants before 2026, but Volkswagen’s board has already expressed support for a plan to allow Porsche into 2026 – which according to the news agency is also the year F1 aims to switch to synthetic fuels. .

Formula 1 will be carbon neutral by the end of the decade, and the technological shift is a golden opportunity to take on the competition at a circuit that has long been dominated by Mercedes.

In May, Volkswagen CEO, DIS, highlighted the growing popularity of Formula 1 in the United States and China as an attractive market opportunity.
