Seems not good enough – Volkswagen just shot the design head

In recent years, Volkswagen has chosen a completely new design for its cars. Then we think particularly about the new electric ID series.

It was necessary in many ways. Of course to emphasize and emphasize that this is something completely new and something to enter the future with – and something that will last for a long time.

But now it appears that Volkswagen boss Thomas Schäfer is not satisfied with the brand’s new design profile. Not only that – he is so unhappy that he has now asked Chief Designer Joseph Kaban to take his hat and leave. This is what the car’s website writes Automotive News Europe.

No little boy

Utah: Josef Kaban has been brought back to Volkswagen in 2020 as Chief Designer. Now new tasks await in the company.

The site also confirms that Volkswagen has indeed found a replacement for the Cabanne. So far, none other than Andreas Mindt has been responsible for the appearance of exclusive Bentley cars.

Mindt will take up his new position as early as February 1 of this year, so it’s going to take a turn for the worse.

Kaban, who must now leave the podium, is not a young boy into car design either. He began his career in 1999 at the Volkswagen Group, working for Audi and Skoda. He was also recruited by BMW, where he worked from 2017 to 2020. Among other things, with Rolls-Royce. before returning to Volkswagen. The glory of design work remains the Bugatti Veyron, in which he was involved. Kaban has not left Volkswagen, but is going to take a new position in the company.

Frequent changes in management

Kaban’s successor, 53-year-old Andreas Mindt, is also a Volkswagen veteran. He grew up in the Volkswagen city of Wolfsburg. His father was a designer at Volkswagen, so he almost got this from his mother’s milk.

Because, apart from the Volkswagen Group’s luxury brand Bentley, Mindt also has experience of the most famous models, such as the seventh generation VW Golf, where he participated, but not as chief designer.

In recent years, Volkswagen has made frequent management changes in many divisions, without which this has contributed to raising sales to new – or should we say – old heights. Then it remains to be seen if Mindt can bring the design up to the expected level.
