Former MMA star Stéphane Bonnar has passed away at the age of 45. This was confirmed by the UFC on Christmas Eve.
Several international media outlets reported that the 45-year-old died of heart problems while at work.
UFC is the largest martial arts organization in the world. Bonnar has been inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
– Stefan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever enter the Octagon. Fans loved him and could relate to him. It will be missed, UFC President Dana White said in a statement.
Bonnar’s fight against Forrest Griffin in 2005 is considered one of the most significant MMA fights in history, and a huge reason why the sport has grown so dramatically in popularity.
Bonnar retired as a fighter in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, he has been involved in professional wrestling.
