Yes, you read that correctly. When the new Volvo EX30 hits Norwegian roads just before the New Year, it will be faster than any other car Volvo has made. According to the manufacturer, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. It’s as quick as a Ferrari Portofino, for example, which accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.5 seconds. That’s faster than the Porsche 911 Carrera, which rolled from the factory in 4.0 seconds. The electric Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is almost mired in comparison with its 4.1-second time.
It wasn’t planned
– The EX30 was not planned to become so quickly. It comes as a byproduct of a lot of other things we did while developing the car. Since this is a small car, it is very light to begin with. In addition, we removed redundant objects so that further weight savings were achieved, says Volvo project manager Akhil Krisnan in an interview with the website. Electric.
Volvo’s second-in-command, Björn Annwall, isn’t too keen on acceleration:
0-100 in 3.6 seconds
– This is something we rarely talk about here at Volvo. I think when a car has good acceleration, whether it’s seven or six seconds from 0 to 100, that’s good enough. We ensure that our cars have acceleration that can provide safe overtaking. Beyond that, I think it’s interesting to talk about the fact that a car can stop in 58 meters at 100 kilometers per hour, says Anwal.
The EX30 is 4.23 meters long, about the size of a Volkswagen ID.3, and comes in three versions: It’s a two-motor, all-wheel drive car – 268bhp at the rear and 154bhp at the front – which should be able to do 0-100 in 3.6 seconds. Price starts from NOK 422,000.
The rear-wheel drive version only has the engine in the back, but is still capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. It costs from NOK 322,000, which is a small price bomb. The longer range version can travel 480 kilometers on a single charge.
If you want one of the Porsches mentioned above, it will cost you upwards of a million kroner and up. You can buy a used 2021 Ferrari Portofino on Finn.no for around NOK 3.5 million.
Elbil24.no will be back with the first test drive of the EX30 soon.
