A 9-year-old boy hit by a drunk driver in West Allis remains in hospital

West Allis, Wisconsin. (CBS 58) – A 9-year-old boy finally woke up after being hit by a suspected drunk driver on Sunday, October 2019. 1.

Ben Modell’s family said the 9-year-old is awake and fighting for his life. He was transferred to Children’s Wisconsin and to the intensive care unit on Sunday.

Kathy Romm, the boy’s grandmother, said: “Ben has many fractures in his skull, and his eye is swollen and closed and black and blue. They took him out of the tube yesterday.”

Modell was out with friends near 84th and National in West Allis on Sunday when he was struck by a car while crossing the street, Roem said. He was beaten by a 73 year old man who was arrested on OWI. Fees are pending.

“All he could say is: ‘I want to hug my father. Where is my father?’ “And then, do I die?” Rom said.

Romm said her son, Modell’s father, is a single parent of three and has been by Modell’s side since Sunday. Modl’s siblings are still processing the incident.

Rohm shared a message from a man she said stayed and waited for paramedics with her grandson after he was injured.

“I want to thank him for sticking with my little grandson,” Roem said.

Roem said she wants the driver to suffer the consequences of his actions, but more importantly, she wants Modell to be healthy again.
