The 70-year-old was taken – blindfolded – to the concert arena, where a long line of fellow artists was waiting to honor him by performing his songs.

In a secret Facebook group with 7,500 members, his son Simen Idsøe Eidsvåg, who was behind the Christmas surprise with his siblings Lise and Einar Idsøe Østevik Eidsvåg, wrote that his father had no idea what to expect on Sunday evening.

Coming on NRK

According to his son, Eidsvåg must have thought he was “going to do something with NRK”, and that it was a matter of “a little recording”. NRK is completely secretive and will be filming everything – from removing the blindfold to 12 fellow artists honoring Eidsvåg on stage.

A recording of the concert will be broadcast on NRK1 Maundy Thursday.

-This has been a busy week of planning meetings for this tribute concert. “It is very strange to plan such a concert where the main artist should not know anything,” Simen Idsøe Eidsvåg wrote in a post on the secret Facebook group.

Only through this group, created four months ago, can invitees find the link to purchase tickets for the surprise concert.

According to the organizer, 5,000 tickets were sold for the concert.

The artist list is strong

These artists are on hand to honor Björn Eidsvag on Sunday evening at Oslo Spectrum:

Emma Steinbakken (who turned her version of “Floden” into Scourge of the Earth), Maria Minna (who sang “Til alle tider”), Ingebjørg Bratland (who translated “Evig hvæli”, released “Savner deg” together in January), Elvira Nicolaisen (Eidsvåg's original duet partner “Floden”), Lisa Nilsson (duet partner in “Mysteriet deg”) and Åge Aleksandersen.
