English Premier League: Draw with Tottenham in the first match without Harry Kane

(Brentford 2-2 Tottenham) After Harry Kane left Tottenham, defenders took the attacking charge in Ange Postecoglou’s Premier League debut.

Brentford went from 0-1 to 2-1 at half-time before Emerson Royal entered from close range just before half-time. The scoring was enough for Ange Postecoglou to move within a point from home in his first meaningful game as Tottenham manager.

Without Harry Kane, who left Tottenham for Bayern Munich on Saturday, Christian Romero ensured an impressive start to the league premiere:

The centre-back lashed out to give Tottenham an early lead from a James Maddison free-kick, but after a three-minute VAR check, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou decided to substitute his new vice-captain.

Despite the fact that the Argentine himself wanted to continue on the field, the new Tottenham coach insisted that Romero be removed after a dream start. A few minutes ago, there was a clash between the central defender and Brentford player Brian Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old walked off the field for the first time in frustration before also leaving the bench and entering the dressing room. Davinson Sanchez came on.

And without Romero on the pitch, Brentford should bounce back relatively quickly. Matthias Jensen was hooked by Son Heung-min in Tottenham’s 16-metre penalty area, and the home team received a penalty after a VAR check.

In the absence of the suspended Ivan Toni, Bryan Mbeumo took over from the penalty spot, sent Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way and equalized midway through the first half.

Nine minutes later, Brentford turned the game around. Wingback Rico Henry charged down the left and found Yoane Wissa in the box. Through Tottenham’s unfortunate first-timer in Mickey van de Ven, the ball crept in to make it 2-1 to the hosts.

But Tottenham responded. Emerson Royal’s dream goal four minutes into extra time ensured it was 2-2 at the break, and 90 minutes later:
