“It looks like we’re coming out of the alderman’s budget.”

“It looks like we’re coming out of the alderman’s budget.”

After the last town council meeting where it was decided to put a shooting range in the basement of the new hall in Mossidmoen, we at the shooting team were very optimistic about the future. This gave good results and a lot of positivity in the team and we gradually started thinking about increasing the activity and we will market ourselves more actively to the youth in the village in order to increase employment.

Apart from that, the municipality invited us to plan this new hall in cooperation with the pistol club, music school, ski and badminton group. We feel that there is a good atmosphere in the planning group and we bet everything on creating a sober, but timely, hall with space for as many activities as possible.

However, what concerns us now is that we appear to be falling out of the Alderman’s budget. We have seen reports in the media and are hearing again that management has priced the shooting range too high (as has happened repeatedly over the years). We have checked and called on other teams who have had new stadiums in recent years and the price level appears to be much lower than what we hear from the figures from the consultant side. At Eidsvoll they got a new shooting range for just over $4 million in connection with a multi-use hall, and at Lindesnes it was probably about $6 million. There, the municipality covers the costs of running the disc material in addition!

New sports hall in Venicela – No plans for an indoor shooting range – Open letter to Venicela Municipal Council

It is quite clear that a vault in this new hall would cost money, but not building this vault in a narrow area like Askedalen would be wasting opportunities that will never return. This building will be used by our grandchildren and great-grandchildren for recreational activities over the next 50 to 60 years, and therefore investment must be made in it to become a building that can meet today’s activities, but also have space for future recreational activities that are not evident today. The world is changing, and if Venice is to be a good place to live in the future, there must be room for young people (of all ages) to have a social space where this activity can be carried out within a reasonable transport distance. 60 years ago, we were in the infancy of private cars here in Norway, and what level transportation will reach in the next 60 years is highly uncertain. Therefore, we must build a view that future friends should have easy and close access to public places where they can carry out their leisure activities.

We at the Shooting Association sincerely hope that this week’s political budget processing will follow up on funding the approved shooting range in Musaamon Hall, and therefore we place our trust in the village politicians to follow up on this decision by allocating the necessary funds for the project!
