Manchester United star Mason Greenwood (21) has arrived at court. There he should be held accountable for attempted rape and physical violence.
English tabloid daily mirror It has pictures of the 21-year-old arriving at Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday morning on a British police prisoner transport – the so-called DAF.
Greenwood has not played football since his arrest in January due to the circumstances under which he is now accused. He was released on bail and extended twice, in April and June.
But Greenwood was arrested again on Saturday for allegations that he violated bail terms by contacting the alleged victim. He was in detention until Monday’s first court hearing.
Jane Potter of the prosecution confirmed Saturday that Greenwood is charged with three cases against the same woman.
“Attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, assault causing actual physical harm,” Potter said.
The 21-year-old has been suspended from the club but still receives a salary of around NOK 800,000 per week from the big club.
Manchester United received criticism before the start of the season, for including Greenwood in the reserve team.
The club was quick to clarify that the player will automatically become part of the team, as he is still an employee of the club, but is still suspended until the matter is clarified.
Manchester United have registered criminal charges against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service. The club announced that it is still suspended by the club pending the outcome of the legal procedures.
The Manchester United striker, born in Bradford in 2001, signed with the club already when he was six years old. He made his first-team debut when he was 17 years old and scored 35 goals in 129 games.
