– Your team confused

But after recent defeats at home to rivals Liverpool (0-5) and Manchester City (0-2), Ferdinand is wondering if Manchester United can be as good as he wants with former team-mate Solskjaer at the helm.

Ferdinand thinks he doesn’t know what United will do tactically, and he doesn’t see the philosophy Solskjaer is trying to follow.

I see a team looking confused, he points out, rethinking the optimism that followed United’s strong transfer window this summer.

I was a little skeptical in my heart, and not entirely convinced that he could lead us to become champions. I wasn’t sure, but I hoped so. With what they showed with the team they got pre-season, and what I’ve seen this season, I feel that maybe now is the time to take the baton to someone else, continues Rio Ferdinand.

The 43-year-old believes a change in the coaching front could take United another step towards the top of Europe, but believes Solskjaer can now leave Old Trafford with his head held high.

Manchester United have not won any titles during Solskjaer’s tenure from December 2018 until now.

The last time the club won the cup was in May 2017. Then they won the Europa League final against Ajax with current Roma coach Jose Mourinho as coach.

We started this season with great hope. That was the most important word. But also with the transition we’ve had, and the excitement it creates. We sat there thinking, “You know what? Now it’s our turn,” says Ferdinand in the podcast.
