Emergency services responded to a fire at a detached house in Trondheim on Saturday night.

– Smoke evacuees from the fire service extracted one person who was inside when the fire broke out, says Gunner Sundley, duty manager at Mid-Norge 110 Central.

Gøran Moen Grendal, police professional investigation manager in the Trøndelag police district, confirmed to NRK that one person had died in the fire.

– This is probably the owner of the house, a man in his 90s. At 01.58 he was found by smokers in the house. Fire fighting is still going on. Grendel says the police will investigate the case to find out what happened.

Only that person was registered at that address. Relatives have been informed.

Operations manager Bjorner Kasvik tells NRK that there are flames inside the house and a lot of smoke.

Robert Olson, chief of operations for the fire service, said the fire started on the first floor before spreading further into the structure of the home.
