Robert Stoltenberg is a well-known personality on Norwegian television. His ability to make us laugh made him one of the most popular comedians in Norway. He has given us unforgettable moments with countless roles in TV shows like ‘Borettslagen’ and ‘Entertainment department’.

But behind the flashy façade is a poignant story of personal struggle and acceptance. Stoltenberg has been open about his homosexual orientation, which he first announced during a visit to the TV show “Scavlan” in 2011.

In his youth, Stoltenberg had plans to become a preacher, a dream that was abandoned when he became aware of his sexual orientation. This was a difficult time for Stoltenberg, as he was raised in a deeply Christian environment, where homosexuality was not easy to accept.

During an interview with NRK radio show Summer in P2Stoltenberg shared more about his feelings and experiences from his youth. He told of nights when he tearfully prayed to God to replace “this toxic infection” with a more acceptable diagnosis, such as a tumor.

– At night I lay sleepless and cried to God to replace this toxic infection with a more acceptable and empathetic diagnosis – a tumor, for example.

This was a time when exorcisms were a hot topic, and Stoltenberg describes the experience as being in a slightly psychotic state, where he could feel they “were crawling under the skin.”

But over time, Stoltenberg learned to accept himself. He found love and has been with Christian Grunvold for over 30 years. Despite his early struggles with self-acceptance, Stoltenberg now says, “I never thought life would be this good.”

Robert Stoltenberg’s life story is an inspiring reminder that even in the face of great personal challenges, it is possible to find acceptance and love.
