Norway has the highest food prices in the world. According to Ole Robert Reitan, who with his father Aud and his brother Magnus’ family controls Reitan’s grocery empire, which has a turnover of more than NOK 100 billion in 2021, prices will continue to rise.

– There is no reason to believe that prices will not continue to move in a negative direction, says Rytan, when he visited Stavrum & Eikeland.

Danish food prices

One of the main reasons why food prices are the highest in the world here on the mountain is to protect the import of agricultural products.

– We operate Rema 1000 in Denmark on exactly the same model as in Norway, and prices there are 30-40 percent lower. If we can bring goods from our warehouse in Horsens to our stores in Norway, we can reduce prices by 30-40 percent, says Reitan.
