The government ensures the continued operation of Rom for Dans

The government guarantees the continued operation of Rom for Dans, and the grant increases by NOK 2 million.

– If Rom for Dans closes operations due to rising rental costs, there will be dire consequences for the general dance environment. Rom for Dans is the place in the country where most dance performers meet daily and have up to 30,000 visitors a year, says Culture and Equality Minister Annette Tribergstoen.

Rom for Dans is facing a steep rent increase that it is not equipped to deal with, so the government is increasing the grant to Rom For Dans by two million kroner to ensure work continues on the building in Rodeløkka. The increase will give the Efficiency Center, audience and users the predictability they need.

Dance has its own power to speak to us across borders and cultures, and we need more of that, especially in tough times. The language of dance is global, and I want to work towards a sustainable dance environment across the country, so that dancers can also live and practice outside of the big cities. Trettebergstuen says the dance space is a beacon in such a context.

Rom for Dans comprises the main part of Oslo’s free dance field, and large portions of the production of new dance performances that are shown in many of the country’s programming stages are produced in Rom for Dans. Before, the black box, which is rented in adjacent buildings, also received an increase.

– We said that we will invest in the free space and these increases are part of this. The Minister of Culture and Equality says that securing infrastructure in the field is an absolute requirement for production and examination.

Rom for Dans is a dedicated dance center, production and exhibition grounds for the professional dance and performing arts field.

– I’m glad we were able to keep both the Rom for Dans and the Black Box Teater at Marstrandgata 8, despite the changes in rental terms. Trettebergstuen says it gives great synergistic effects that these two are so close together, and that this community can continue is important to both and to the field of free performing arts.
