On Thursday morning, the Meteorological Agency extended a yellow danger warning for ice in southern Norway and warned of challenging driving conditions in large parts of the country.

There have already been several accidents in Westfold on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Face to face in Larvik

At Vindfjell, on the border between Vestfold and Telemark, things went wrong just before 3.30pm on Thursday.

Two cars collide head-on at high speed.

– We don't know the extent of the damage at the moment, but in terms of damage there is more speed and more power, Stahl Fuglas says. He is head of work in the Sørøst Police District.

An elderly couple has been taken to a hospital in Skien, while a man in his 30s has been taken to Dansberg.

Due to this accident, cars waiting in a long queue this afternoon were completely damaged.

People were waiting in a long queue on National Highway 32 due to the accident on Thursday.

The road was reopened to normal traffic shortly before 6pm.

More accidents

Several accidents took place in the same district in the evening.

Among other things, two cars collided just before 6pm on the E18 exit towards Stoke.

Along Ulaveien in Larvik, a car skidded off the road a few minutes later.

The vehicle is ditched for traffic.

The driver, who is in his 80s, appears uninjured, police said.

Fuglaas encourages people to take it easy.

– He says people should drive according to the conditions as the road is snowy and slippery.

– People should take their time and drive according to the conditions. Here, being organized is also important, says the task leader.

– Use common sense

After several crashes Thursday evening, police are asking people to check weather conditions extra carefully when they hit the road.

– Everyone should be responsible for their own driving. We are in the middle of February. Thursday evening operations manager Trant Egil Groth says people should use common sense.
