USA: - Giant arms deal for Ukraine

The United States has adopted an enhanced arms package for Ukraine worth just under 12 billion Norwegian kroner.

The package contains, among other things, 18 new HIMARS missile systems with ammunition. President Joe Biden announced this on Wednesday, according to France Press agency.

The president said that the HIMARS artillery system would, among other things, help Ukraine counter Russian attacks. The Ukrainians have already achieved great success with this weapon, which was previously donated by the United States.

Missiles, which can be fired with very high accuracy, helped, among other things, to hit command posts and ammunition depots far from the Russian front lines.

The officers claimed that HIMARS and other similar systems were key to Ukrainian successes in recent weeks, the AP wrote.

The aid package also includes 300 cars and dozens of trucks and trailers for transporting heavy equipment. In addition, the United States is donating radars, communications and surveillance equipment, as well as explosive detection equipment.

The enhanced aid package from the United States comes at the same time that there is significant tension over whether Russia will get serious about annexation plans in the wake of the disputed referendums.

On Tuesday, the pro-Russian authorities declared victory in all four provinces that held referendums.

White House press secretary Karen-Jean-Pierre warned that the reactions would be “extraordinary” if Russia began annexing Ukrainian territory.
