On the morning of Saturday, May 20, Aderrien Murry called the emergency number, following a message from her mother, Nakala Murry. It is said that it was because an angry father stepped on the door.
Fearing what might happen, the mother told the 11-year-old to call the police.
– act recklessly
Aderrien did as he was told. But when the police arrived at the family home, the 11-year-old was shot in the chest.
The accident occurred in Indianola, Iowa, USA.
– This 11-year-old is approximately 147 cm tall. He couldn’t be mistaken for a grown man. We don’t know what happened, other than that the police officer acted recklessly and that it could have resulted in loss of life, says family attorney Carlos Moore to CNN.
No child should be subjected to such violence from those who are sworn to protect and serve.
The family is now calling for the police officer to be suspended.
The 11-year-old was seriously injured, but has now been released from the hospital. He suffered broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and liver damage.
The incident led to the boy now fearing the police.
– He asks a lot of questions and wonders why the police shot him if he did something wrong, says the mother.
According to the family’s lawyer, the police have not yet contacted the mother of the 11-year-old.
They are now waiting for the police to release a video of the incident captured by the policeman’s body camera.
According to the mother, the son was shot when he approached the corner of the house.
Indianola police confirmed that one of their officers was involved in the shooting, but did not provide further information.
CNN contacted the aforementioned police officer, but there was no response to the investigation.
The man is relieved of work duties until the case is fully investigated. He will continue to receive his regular salary and benefits.
