Wayne Rooney has finished coaching DC United, and the club has confirmed this on its own website.
– The club and manager Wayne Rooney have agreed to go their separate ways, writes the club.
The decision comes the day after the club’s final match of the season. It ended in victory, but DC United still failed to reach the MLS playoffs.
Rooney himself confirms the departure:
– It’s the right time. I did everything I could to get the club to the playoffs. Nothing special happened. “It’s all about timing,” Rooney tells The Athletic.
The Englishman left Derby in the summer of 2022 to become the coach of the American capital club. He also played 48 matches as a player for the club between 2018 and 2020.
