In this car park in Bogstadveien, all spaces have their own charging point. Now the municipality must pay more people to do the same.
The short version
- The car park in Bogstadveien has converted its full capacity to charge electric cars.
The summary is created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and quality guaranteed by Aftenposten journalists.
– We have completely rebuilt the parking lot to be future-oriented and for commercial purposes, says Peter Andreas Poppe.
15 years ago, he bought a garage in Bogstadvien 1. At that time, only a few people were talking about electric car charging and range. Today, this causes concern for many electric car owners. This is because not enough charging points are being built in Oslo to meet the need. From November 1, for example, all taxis in Oslo must be zero-emission.
Bob has now ensured his entire car park is fully electric, so 144 cars can be charged simultaneously from next week. Those who take advantage of the opportunity must pay only for parking. Shipping will be free. If you charge using so-called superchargers, you pay half the parking fee.
– As far as I know, this will be the first fully electric parking garage in Norway. All places have the option of charging electric cars.
Create its own substation
Aftenposten was recently able to report that the Oslo municipality created 122 new charging points available to the general public last year. Thus POP created more charging points than the municipality could manage in 2023.
He does not hide that the goal is to get more people to stand with him. They also received 60 cars participating in the house.
– When you set a goal for all traffic within Ring 2 to be fossil fuel-free, those of us who manage parking have to think again. Both by offering good charging options, but also the possibility of car sharing.
Poppe created a new substation in cooperation with Tesla. There will be 16 250 kWh superchargers (fast chargers) and several destination chargers, which also have high charging capacity.
A new support plan from the municipality
City Councilor for Environment and Transport, Marit Via (V), is very excited about what Bob has achieved.
– It is very cool when private players create charging points. 60% of cars in Oslo still run on fossil fuels. In order to get more people to switch to electric vehicles, it's important to have good charging infrastructure, Via says.
Therefore, the municipality will launch a new support plan in mid-March. Anyone with parking spaces can apply to cover up to 20 percent of the costs of setting up charging points. Charging points must be accessible for at least ten hours per day, and it must be possible to park and charge the vehicle for at least ten continuous hours.
“It could be a parking lot, or parking outside a store or office,” Via says.
It is not more expensive than the municipality
It is also required that the price of parking and charging be not higher than the price of municipal charging points, and that the power of the charging devices must be at least 7.2 kilowatts.
Vea does not hide the fact that the development of charging infrastructure has been very slow.
– Now we have to intensify our efforts. Oslo has limited space to create sufficient charging infrastructure. This way we can get several hundred new charging points. We are also working to establish more fast chargers on municipal lands. In addition, this year the municipality will bear half the bill for companies, taxi drivers and housing/condominium associations that invest in electric vehicle charging, says the city council.
Emo Park: Anthem
Aimo Park occupies approximately 30 parking spaces with over 4,000 parking spaces within Ring 2. There are facilities with a few chargers, to facilities where half the spaces can be charged. Now they will build more charging points.
– We applaud the introduction of these support plans, as they will contribute to a faster expansion of the charging network, which is crucial for further electrification of the vehicle fleet, Marketing Director Ketil Pratsit wrote in an email.
It can contribute to establishing a minimum level of establishment, also in places where it would not normally be relevant. “We are looking forward to the launch,” he writes.
– We are in the process of creating a full charging plan in the parking lot inside Ring 2. We consider this where demand is large enough, Pratsit wrote.
