On Tuesday, an elderly fisherman was reported missing and the dead person was later found and brought up from the depths.

It all started on Tuesday afternoon when relatives got worried. An 80-year-old man did not return home from a fishing trip.

The man was out in Romsdalsfjord near Molde.

Relatives contacted the police.

A search operation was then launched and a boat was found at a depth of 100 meters on Wednesday night.

The boat was found with the help of a Coast Guard vessel carrying a remotely operated underwater robot called an ROV.

The man was found inside the boat's wheelhouse. With the help of the Coast Guard, the man was rescued Wednesday afternoon, 10 hours after the boat was found.

– An autopsy will be performed on the deceased. A case of investigation has been established. In the end, we will try to find out why the boat went down, says Leif Arne Mork, operations manager at the Møre and Romsdal police district.

He says relatives have been informed throughout the campaign.

Although the person was found, the boat is still 100 meters deep. They'll figure it out eventually.

– There must be many sources for that to happen, he says.

According to Romstal's Budstikke The Central Rescue Center and the insurance company decide what happens next to the boat.

The search for the deceased was extensive and, according to the police, covered the entire fjord system south of Molde in the Moldefjord, Storfjord and Karlsøyfjord area.
