Storting President Masud Gharahkhani (Ap) met with one of America’s leading politicians this evening.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, met with Karaghani this evening in Zagreb. Dagbladet said the war in Ukraine and unrest in Iran were the main topics during the conversation in the Croatian capital.
Pelosi, 82, was one of the main targets when protesters in the United States attempted a coup on January 6, 2021. Pelosi is also the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the largest chamber of Congress. America’s most powerful elected representatives.
Both Pelosi and Karahkhani are in Croatia for a meeting of parliamentary leaders.
The meeting shows that the US sees Norway as a key actor in such stormy times, the labor summit says.
– America is Norway’s most important ally. Here in Zagreb, heads of parliament from 30 countries have come to show solidarity with Ukraine. “The fact that we were able to hold this meeting on such a hectic schedule is a recognition of the close ties between our two countries,” Karahkhani tells Dogbladet.
He is clear that the meeting left a mark and that the war in Ukraine was a major topic of conversation between the two behind closed doors.
– Pelosi is a heavyweight with solid experience, and I have a lot of respect for him. As a woman, she has paved the way. Both of us, as parliamentary leaders, are involved in Ukraine. The rain of bombs in Kiev and across Ukraine reinforces the importance of our countries’ continued contributions.
Iran on the menu
Norway was one of the largest suppliers of weapons to Ukraine based on the size of the national arsenal prior to the war.
