The Intelligence Service collects, processes and analyzes information relating to Norwegian interests, which are perceived in relation to foreign states, organizations and individuals. The purpose of intelligence activities is to help give the Norwegian authorities a solid basis for decision-making in matters that may pose a risk to Norway. The service is an integral part of the organization and operations of the Norwegian Armed Forces, and it solves the tasks of the entire government apparatus. The intelligence service operates in accordance with overarching political priorities and guidelines.

As a Chinese language analyst in the digital space, your main tasks will be to perform analysis, processing and reporting of materials collected within the department’s areas of responsibility. The reports contribute as important elements to the overall basis for the assessment and delivery of the Norwegian Intelligence Service that go to national decision makers.

The position offers exciting missions in a dynamic environment. You will work with information on many of the department’s priority areas, so you will have an exciting area of ​​work that runs through existing portfolios. You will be trained in an intelligence profession and will eventually qualify as an intelligence specialist.

qualifications:

Requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, humanities or natural sciences, preferably within China. Long experience or demonstrated working aptitude, depending on the assessment, can make up for the lack of formal education.

  • Good language skills in Chinese

  • Very good written and spoken Norwegian and English skills

It is recommended that you have:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in the social sciences, humanities or natural sciences

  • Relevant experience with good results

  • Professional intelligence operational service experience

  • Russian language proficiency

  • Knowledge or experience of the armed forces

  • Experience from international service, preferably from military operations or other international business related to conflict or crisis areas. Expertise from areas related to the department’s priorities will be emphasized

Special requirements:

  • Applicants must meet the requirements of the highest security clearance

  • For employment in the National Intelligence Service, you cannot obtain anything other than Norwegian citizenship at the time of employment

  • The position is subject to an on-call duty, see Defense Law and Defense Personnel Regulations, which means you can be required to perform international operations. This entails medical and physical fitness requirements, a Class B driver’s license and basic knowledge of English. In special cases, exemptions from additional and special requirements may be granted, even if the situation is essentially subject to the obligation of the request.

You will get an annual salary within NOK. 593,500 – 677,000 (salary steps 64 – 71) in the advisor position (code: 1434) as per the current master tariff agreement. For particularly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered.
