Eric Ten Hag to coach Manchester United - VG

Dutchman Erik Ten Hag (52) will be the new Manchester United manager this summer.

– I think it’s exciting work. I think he’s very clear with a clear plan on how he wants to play football, and that’s important for United now. Henning Berg, the former United player for VG, says they are now in a place where there is a complete lack of offensive and defensive interaction.

Manchester United have announced that Ten Hag will sign an agreement from next season until June 2025. The club reserves the right to obtain a work permit in England. Ralf Rangnick leads United in the spring.

It is a great honor to be the manager of Manchester United, and I am very excited about the challenge, says Ten Hag in a press release.

He is currently coaching Ajax and has impressed with the Amsterdam club, including the Champions League semi-finals in 2019. Previously, Ten Hag coached the Go Ahead Eagles, second team Bayern Munich and Utrecht.

It will be difficult to leave Ajax after four fantastic years, and I can assure the fans that I am completely dedicated and focused on achieving a successful finish before I move to Manchester United, says Ten Hag.

On the way: Erich Ten Hag replaces Amsterdam with Manchester.

Ajax leads the Eredivisie with four points to PSV, while PSV Eindhoven recently won the final cup 2-1 against ten men from Hague.

Recently, British media reported that Ten Hag will take over at United after this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired by Manchester United in November. Since then, German Ralf Rangnick has temporarily led the club.

In our conversations with Eric about this appointment, we were deeply moved by his long-term vision to bring Manchester United back to the level we want to compete at, says John Mortog, United’s director of football and describes Ten Hag as “one of the most exciting and successful” coaches in Europe.

Mortog also highlights Ten Hag’s style of play as both attractive and offensive.

– United is expected to be clearer in dealing. Henning Berg says Ten Hag has been very clear about his identity with Ajax.

Heavy: Phil Jones and Harry Maguire despair during the loss to Liverpool.

The mood among Manchester United fans is currently bad. Earlier this week, the team was humiliated by a 0-4 away loss to rivals Liverpool. The club is number six in the Premier League.

Everything indicates that Tin Hag is a brilliant director. That’s shown by the results as well as feedback from the people who worked with him, says Lars Tiernas, a Viaplay expert and former assistant to Egil “Drillo” Olsen.

– But in order to become a good manager of Manchester United, the club must organize with greater sporting competence – a good sporting director and a competent scout, among other things. Plus, he must have time for his philosophy to work, and the resources to get the right players over time, continues Tjærnås.
