“People stare, but I think it’s very cool,” Danielle Lebel (28 years old) tells Jam Press.

When Leibel was born in Detroit, Michigan, she had a large birthmark on her face

Birthmarks, also called strawberry spots, consist of small blood vessels in the outer layer of skin that give the skin a strong red to violet color, according to healthline. The Great Norwegian Encyclopedia.

-I never really cared. The 28-year-old says people get really curious when they see something they’ve never seen before.

More and more attention

Danielle LeBel thanks her parents for their comfortable relationship with the birthmark.

– My parents did a great job raising me. When children grow up with health challenges or obvious differences, they may become very self-conscious or struggle with their identity, she says.

LeBel says she always knew who she was.

– I know what I want and how much I deserve – completely independent of my birthmark. That doesn’t mean I’ve always loved him, but I’m no less valuable even if I have a “flaw,” she says.

She got up to put on makeup

Although LeBel is not ashamed of her birthmark, she sometimes has a hard time.

-When I was younger, I never left the house without makeup. “I never washed my face when I was spending the night with my friends, and I would wake up early to put on more makeup,” she says.

She says she has undergone two laser treatments to make the large birthmark appear fainter, and that sometimes she feels like she is burying herself.

– Sometimes I wish I didn’t have the birthmark – that I could get up and walk out the door. I know I can. However, I resist the voice in my head that says it’s easier to wear makeup to avoid people looking at me and asking me things, she says.

She says she has met many people through her TikTok videos.

-I have met a lot of people who I can communicate with, or who can communicate with me. She says: It’s incredible that more people don’t know about strawberry spots.

Ready for Disney

LeBel says she hopes her openness will help others.

– In movies, sitcoms and television, disfigurements and facial discoloration are seen as something scary. I want to see a princess carrying port wine brands. If Disney wants to contact me, they know where I am, she joked.
